Who We Are
From a 500 sq. ft. Apartment to a Downtown Landmark
Square State Brewing was born from humble beginnings—Mike Hulen started homebrewing in a 500-square-foot apartment in Portland, Oregon and never looked back. What began as a passion project quickly evolved into a dream, and together with his wife Cassandra Vincelette, the two built a brewery in downtown Rock Springs that celebrates community, quality, and the Wyoming outdoors they love.
Mike and Cassandra are not just co-owners—they’re partners in life and in the business. Mike is an avid bird hunter and spends his fall season out in the field with their dogs, Ku and Birdy, by his side. Cassandra is a dedicated trail runner, always chasing dirt paths through the high desert hills. Together, they spend their summers fishing from their boat on Flaming Gorge Reservoir, soaking up everything Southwest Wyoming has to offer.
They’ve built Square State Brewing as a reflection of their values: community-driven, people-first, and deeply connected to place. Located in a building from the late 1800s in historic downtown Rock Springs, Square State sits in the heart of the Railside Arts and Culture District, surrounded by the city’s rich mining history and creative energy.
